Class Information
Absences
If your child is absent, they MUST bring
a written excuse with them upon their return to school. If they do not have a
written excuse it will be counted as unexcused.
Birthdays
If you wish to bring a
special treat for the class to celebrate your child's birthday please feel free
to do so. It is not mandatory. Please let me know ahead of time if
you will be bringing a treat. Thanks! :-)
Backpacks
Each student needs a CLEAR OR
MESH bookbag that zips shut to carry between home and
school each day. Please check your child's bookbag
daily
!!! Each child will have a F.R.O.G.S. (Fully Responsible Organized Growing Students)
folder. In addition to assignments done in class, all papers regarding
homework, projects, newsletters, and other pertinent school information will be
found in this folder. I will be checking folders daily for lunch/breakfast/milk
money and to see if you have sent me any notes. It is EXTREMELY important to
bring this folder each day. Students who have their folder each day during the
week will be rewarded periodically. This is a wonderful beginning to teaching
our children responsibility! :-)
Classroom Rules
Woodford
County and Northside Elementary school rules are
posted in the handbook you received on the first day of school, and are
expected to be followed. In addition we will decide as a class on Rm. 105
rules during the first week of school. I will post these agreed upon
rules in the classroom and here.
Communication
Communication between
teachers, parents, and students is key to a successful
school year! Please feel free to contact me at home or make an
appointment to meet with me before or after school. My home number is
879-3464. Please do not hesitate to call with any questions. If you have
email access and want to contact me that way you may do so at bhewlett@woodford.k12.ky.us
I check email daily! :-)
Homework
All first grade students will
be assigned homework on a weekly basis. In addition, weekly assignments are
also posted here on this website by clicking on the homework icon. Parents please review your
child's homework with them each week.
Meals
Breakfast is available to
students who wish to eat at school before the instructional day begins for .75
cents. Lunch is $1.35. Our classes lunch time is 11:05-11:30. In
addition we have a milk break each morning at 9:40am. Milk can be purchased for
this time for .35 cents. They may also bring a nutritious snack from home
to eat at milk break time.*** Please send all money in
an envelope at the beginning of each week with your child's name and how the
money is to be spent. The cafeteria will be using a new computerized system
this year to track each child's cafeteria account!
Medications
If your child needs to take
any medication during the school day, an adult must bring the medication
to the office to check it in. Please send a note to your child’s homeroom
teacher to let them know and advise them of the time it is to be taken. Thanks!
Parties
We will have several classroom
parties to celebrate various holidays during the school year. Typically the
homeroom mother organizes these. Please be watching for notes regarding
these parties and items you are asked to bring. Thanks for your
cooperation.
Recess
We have two short recess
periods each day. We will be going outside each day weather
permitting. Please be sure to send coats, hats, mittens etc. when the
weather turns colder. On days that are too cold or rainy we will have
indoor recess in the classroom or in the gym if it is available. One of our
recess periods is spent on our little playground outside of our classroom, and
the second will be spent on the big school playground outback.
Supplies
Please be sure you have sent
all supplies from the list sent home prior to school beginning. It is
important that each child has the supplies they need. The supply list
is also available from our classroom home page. Please be sure to label supplies
with your child's name. Notice will be sent home when supplies run out or need
to be replaced.
Transportation
I realize that transportation
is a big concern for many parents. For those students not being picked up or
going to the ETC program, The Woodford Sun will post
bus schedules in the back to school issue or you can call the bus garage to
find out information about your child’s bus. Please be sure to
send written notice if your child will be going home in a different manner.
