Minutes – October 26, 2006  

Meeting called to order at 5:25.  

Members present: Kim Parker Brown, Debbie Webb, Sheryl Bruens, Sharon Willmarth, Terri Tonges and Brenda Cissell. Guest present Bonnie Johns.  

  • The agenda was approved with two additions, the November 20 school board meeting and the NAEP test.  (T. Tonges made a motion to approve, B. Cissell seconded.)  

  • Minutes for the September meeting were reviewed and approved with three changes. Mrs. Bruens made a motion to approve the minutes; Mrs. Tonges seconded this.  

  • The council reviewed the minutes for the School Climate, Professional Development, Budget, Policy, Curriculum and Technology committee September meetings.  

  • The council discussed the upcoming election of a new parent member to the council, scheduled for December 1.  

  • Kyle Westerfield won a check for $5000 from the Nickelodeon contest, which was presented at the October pep rally. Mrs. Waters is giving each class a list of equipment to vote on, so that the kids can decide how this money is spent.  

  • Mrs. Parker-Brown asked council members to review the CSIP before the next meeting as she will bring evidence of progress and the council will review this document in November.  

  • The next School Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20 at 6:30pm.  The board has asked each school council to report plans for raising test scores at this meeting.  

  • Huntertown has been chosen to participate in NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) testing this school year. This test is given to 4th graders at randomly selected schools across the country. It tests core subjects (Math, Reading and Science) and compares the scores nationwide.  On February 21 a letter is to go home to parents of 4th graders explaining this process, Mrs. Currens has been chosen as the contact person.  

  • All decisions were by consensus.  

  • A motion to close was made at 6:25pm by T. Tonges and seconded by D. Webb.
