Mrs. Emmons’ Class News

When you vote on November 7, 2006, bring your children and they can vote in a “mock election.”  This program is sponsored by the Women’s Network for Democratic Principles.  Results will be available in the Woodford Sun and the County Clerk’s office.

SCIENCE Your child’s test should be in his/her packet of papers.  The open responses will be graded separately and will be returned next week.  We are learning about different habitats and the populations that live in a community as we prepare for our field trip to Buckley next Thursday.

WATCH THE WEATHER TO HELP PLAN WHAT YOUR CHILD SHOULD WEAR FOR THE FIELD TRIP ON THURSDAY.  EVERYONE WILL NEED TO WEAR LONG PANTS AND CLOSED TOE SHOES – TENNIS SHOES, BOOTS, ETC.  THE PREDICTED TEMPERATURE SHOULD DETERMINE HOW MANY LAYERS SHOULD BE WORN.  WE WILL BE DOING ACTIVITIES BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.

Social Studies-Thank you to all the parents who donated flour and salt for our salt dough maps.  We constructed our maps on Thursday.  They are still drying and we will paint them on Wednesday.  We will be painting each region a different color and marking something that is unique to each region.

Math- In math we are working on subtraction with borrowing, estimating differences and rounding.  The test over chapter 4 will be next Friday.

Language arts-We finished our story, The Great Kapok Tree. We worked with suffixes –ful, -ly, and –ness.  We worked on writing an on demand writing piece.  We did a class on demand about voting and the students did one on their own about a class pet.
